external HDD shows as removable disk

I am not really a techie but i hope i have come to the right place to ask this

I have a WD passport 500gb hard disk. One fine day when i connect it to my computer this is what it is showing as removable disk.

i have gone through couple of pages online asking me to change the drive letter, do a clean boot...i ve done it all...but still no luck

please help...

Inside the enclosure is a small PCB which handles port conversion (SATA to USB). This may be faulty as it's usually the first thing to go wrong on external drives (assuming the drive is not dropped or thrown around carelessly).

Try extracting the actual hard drive (no easy task as there are no screws) and fitting it in to a third-party enclosure.
