R9 280X only have 1 HDMI port. What are some good adapters to run 2 HDMI screens off 1 HDMI port?

This was what I was totally confused about "How does the computer know 2 screens are connected to 1 HDMI??" so I wasn't sure if I'd be screwing myself over or something.

Another note, the card has 1 x DL-DVI-I, 1 x SL-DVI-D.
I understand that they're both DVI but what if I just plug in both screens as DVI in both of the DVI ports? Does it matter that one DVI port is DL and the other is SL?

Having both monitors connect via the DVI ports would work perfectly. Doesn't matter which monitor in which port. You'll be able to arrange the screens through windows resolution section in the control panel.

The difference between the two is, D means double which is capable of supporting very high resolutions, S is single link. The 4th port on the card (DP) becomes important when/if you decide to go with 3 monitors.

I suggest you consider eyefinity since you already have a matching pair. If you do pull the trigger on a third screen you'll need to buy an active displayport adapter <$30, which will convert the DP port to HDMI/DVI. Eyefinity gaming is awesome and your 280x is powerful enough to drive 3x1080p, just not on high or ultra setting for most AAA games.
