Hey guys, I decided and bought a 27" 1440p monitor online and with my current spec, i will probably need to play games at 1080p for a while until i upgrade my gpu to a better one.

So here's the question. my case is damn small and i just barely fit my tiny gtx460 (about 21cm length) so there's no way any higher end graphic card will fit the case (i'm aiming for something on par with but not better than 7970 due to my budget).

So with the specs below , what is the best choice for me?

1. buy 7970 or equivalent graphic card, then buy a larger case and transfer my current pc there. (note that i've never build any pc before and i believed moving existing motherboard to a new case would be even harder!)

2. buy 7970 + new pc build.(don't really want this. unless my i7-950 would be a serious bottleneck)

3. keep current pc and case, and buy a shorter length and less powerful graphic card (has be to 21cm in length or shorter). although i don't think there's any gpu that can handle 1440p that is around 21cm length

4. wait for better graphic card with 21cm length to come out and just stick with 1080p for a while

here's my current build

motherboard:Gigabyte x58-usb3

Case: a no name cheap and small case. i always leave my case open so airway is probably very bad but planning airflow seems so complex so whatever.

Psu: Powercase 650w max, atx12v (probably a no name brand because i asked for a very cheap build)

graphic card: Galaxy gtx 460 se 768mb

ram:4gb (used to have 8 GB but another ram gave me DRAM size error so i threw it away)

cpu : i7 950

thanks in advance

More about : transfer motherboard case

I would buy a new case and move everything into it, you will then be able to fit in a better graphics card.

I have the same processor and game @ 2560 x 1440 with a single GTX 780.

I would take lots of pics of where wires are plugged in so its easier to put it all back together.

I would go with option one. Don't worry, with a little research and patience, transferring to a new case can actually be quite simple.

This can help, where you haven't built a pc before.

So i just realized but

1. which case would you recommend? doesn't have to be super perfect airflow because i probably won't overclock.

2.is there anyone who has Gigabyte x58-usb3 motherboard? i just noticed that the SATA port is just right next to the pci express slot so would THAT get in the way of such a long card like 7970? or would it went over the SATA port just fine?

really appreciate your answer, it would suck big time if I buy the gpu only to realize later that my SATA port is blocking it.

It's no big deal, my 7970 just covers my sata ports. It's perfectly normal. How much were you looking to spend on a computer case?

i'd say something around $50-$80 if possible? is the price about right or too cheap?
