Is an AMD Phenom II X4 960T Black Edition (AM3), work in an Asrock 970 Extreme3 Rev. 2.0 AM3+ socket motherboard?

According to one site, there are 2 variants of the 960T:

HD96ZTWFK4DGR is an OEM/tray microprocessor

and

HD96ZTWFGRBOX is a boxed microprocessor

But in the support page of the 970 Extreme3 R2.0 (http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970%20Extreme3%20R2.0/?cat=CPU), only the HD96ZTWFK4DGR is supported. Does that mean that boxed, retail versions that you can buy from stores are not supported?

Solution
Yes it will work. (If it can handle the CPU power requirements)

ie a 95w AM3+ socket can only handle 95w AM3 CPU's.

A 125w AM3+ socket can handle CPU's up to 125w

(Trying to check now, but my mobil connection is sloooowwww)

*Ok, the ASrock website says it can handle CPU's up to 140w. You should be fine.

Dont worry your board supports AMD 960T CPU and the difference between BOX and tray is that, tray/OEM CPUs comes without cooler, only the bare chip and OEM vendors use their own coolers instead of the AMD supplied cooler to the CPU. Both Box and tray chips are the same. So you are good to go with the upgrade. To double check ask to AsRock support aswell.
