Hi all.
Just last night, I resurrected my old computer to sell to a friend. I used a system restore disk/reinstall disk which gives it Windows XP Media Center 2002 Edition. Have reisntalled this before with the same disc on the same computer, and had few issues---although that was a few years ago. After it installed last night, I am not able to get windows update to work; I've been all over google trying to figure it out, I can install updates manually but I don't know which ones I need and the website just doesn't work.
These days, apparently there isn't much support for Windows XP. Understandable since its old. But there seems to be no fix to this problem.
When I go to windows update either on the control panel or directly on the web, I get redirected to a support website. If I look up the microsoft update website on google, it comes up and I can get to it, but then it scans for a second then gives an unexplained error. Back to square one.

I have updated to IE8, I have registered the wups.dll I have done numeours suggestions and manually downloaded the installer for the Windows Update Service. No luck on all fronts, same error, no change.

I'm not really sure where to go from here. Any advice?
