Hello,

I'm having an issue with my secondary hard drive running in Windows 8. I have a 120GB SDD as my primary drive with the OS on it, then a 1TB Western Digital Black HDD that has many of my programs running on it along with most of my files. I also have a 1TB Seagate Baracuda as a backup drive, but I rarely use it.

While I'm in Windows 8 the Western Digital hard drive suddenly disappears completely. If I try to access the files from My Computer, the drive is not there. If I go into disk management, the drive is not there. When I restart the computer and enter BIOS, the drive is not there. If I turn off the computer and switch the SATA port of the hard drive, it shows up in BIOS, then works in windows for a few minutes before the same thing happens. I've tried switching SATA cables, SATA ports, and have even had the drive and now the motherboard replaced and the same issue persists.

Here are my computer specs:

AMD FX-8350 CPU
ASUS M5A97R2.0 Motherboard
Samsung 840 series 120GB SDD primary drive
Western Digital 1TB Black HDD secondary drive
Seagate 1TB Baracuda HDD backup drive
Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB RAM memory
XFX Radeon HD 7850 Video Card
RAIDMAX RX-530SS 530 Watt PSU
Windows 8 OS

Thank you so much for your help. Tom's Hardware has been invaluable to me in the past when looking for problems with my computer.

Thanks for the help. I ran that software and it says the health of the status is caution (yellow). Everything looks good except "Current Pending Sector Count" is 198, and "Uncorrectable Sector Count" is also 198. I'm not sure what that means but, Window's Disk Management says they're both healthy.
