I've got a new acer aspire x and it came with a driver install disc and a windows 8 install disc. It only starts up in DOS and I can't figure out how to get it to run them. How do you do it?

If you *want* to do a clean installation and have an install disk, simply boot from the disk to start the process. If you select custom install you can first delete any existing partitions if you would like.

If what you really have is a repair disk and the HDD has a restore partition you can boot from the repair disk to do the factory restore.

If it is a new system take it back to where you got it and have them fix it -- the windows operating system should already be installed when you buy it and if it is only booting to dos that usually means there is some problem with either the hardware or software install that is keeping it from booting into windows. So there is a good chance there is something wrong with the system. When you buy a pre built computer it should not need you to install anything to get it running -- all of that should have been done by the company that built the thing -- so take it back and have the store fix it or replace it with a working one - since it could mean there is a defect in the hardware that is causing the system to not boot properly -- and if you try to fix it yourself you may wind up doing something that they claim voids the warranty and try to make you pay for repairing it. (ie. if you reformat the HDD and try to reinstall the software and it fails they may try to say you caused the problem and refuse to take it back saying you caused the problem and need to pay to repair it - best to take it back under warranty and get it replaced\repaired since it is a new system.
