Hi Everyone,

2 Optical drives =1 DVD ROM + 1 DVD Multi-Recorder
Floppy drive

also - PCI slot has some kind of network card with 3 outputs that I am not sure what kind of cable plugs into the ports on this card
.
.
Summary of details

I bought windows 8.1 32 bit operating system for my brothers old PC. The old HDD broke and the idiot who assembled this PC did not include the windows license. After installing New HDD, I had a hard time finding an install disc for Windows XP.

I went out and bought a 32 bit win 8.1 pro OS. I quickly skimmed over the min specs before purchasing and completely overlooked the important CPU requirement "...support for PAE, NX, and SSE2..." and graphics requirements also. I made this mistake because I was frustrated, tired of dealing with it, just wanted to fix it and sell to raise money for a new build.

After install process windows will not load. The error message says "Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on the computer's hardware".

Question#1 - Will adding a better GPU make windows 8.1 pro work? I have an old GeForce 9800GT with 512 MB of DDR3 and a HD5670 512 MB GDDR5.

Question#2 - Is there any way to make Windows 8.1 work on this machine at all? (or do I need window 7 32 bit?)

Solution
Pull out that "some kind of network card" PCI card you mentioned before and exchange that Radeon HD 2400 Pro/XT for the 9800GT. If it still won't install then my guess is that the Mobo is the issue.

Good Luck.

@PinchedNerve - Thanks for the quick reply.

No. It only displays a Dialog box with error message "Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on the computer's hardware". It happens every time I try to finish installation / boot windows 8.1
