Looking into OCing my i7920 at some point haven't really run into the need to yet but it's getting to be about that time. My question is would a stock fan on that be enough for a moderate OC or is the stock fan just a plain no for any OCing? Also anyone know a good newbie guide for OCing this CPU?

More about : 920 stock fan

I don't recommend using the stock heatsink for OCing. Others are okay with mild OCing with them.

OEM heatsinks really aren't designed to OC and I just don't think it worth the risk. I would suggest you look at an aftermarket heatsink like the CM Hyper 212 EVO. Cheap and very effective.

Depends on what you mean by moderate, but it could probably handle a few hundred MHz jump, but nothing major. There are cheap solutions like the Cooler Master EVO cpu cooler for around $25 that will let you push it further.

OK just asking cause I've been seeing and the reason why I bought an i7 920 ages ago is cause it can OC pretty damn good that and it's held up well. So those that hyave been getting 4.0ghz+ what would you say they've been using? Would a fan like that cover it? or are we talking nitrogen cooling for that?

A good air cooled heatsink like the EVO recommended is more than enough. No nitrogen needed
