Dear EVGA.... What is this mess?

I really loved these guys. Always fast and and easy to talk to.

Last week I broke a fan blade on my 560 TI (SC). Admittedly it was my fault. I was dusting with a compressor and it shot across the room. The card is getting close to 2 years old.

I called and they said sending it back for repair wouldn't be a problem.

Thought that was really great.

However.

I got the card back today. Entirely different. They send me a 650 TI Boost.

I'm Scratching my head here. I was using the 560 TI in an SLI configuration.

I also curious as to which one is actually better but I have my doubts given that it only has one 6 pin adapter. It is a 2GB card though.

Any suggestions on what to do past this point would be greatly appreciated. I kind of wanted to weigh my options here.

Here's the one I RMA'd

Here's what they sent back:

The 650 Boost is about a 10% upgrade over the 560 Ti. I doubt they even had another 560 Ti in stock to send you. I would recommend calling EVGA to explain your situation and test that great customer service reputation of theirs.

Your next option would be to sell your 560 and get a second 650 Boost for SLI. That will put you right up about GTX 770 levels.

well, 650Ti boost is significantly faster than 560Ti..

but yes, it'll be slower than 560Ti in SLI mode..

well, why not dusting with a compressor and it shot across the room once more again..? but make sure that the other 560Ti is your target..:D

Yep. Took your advice. Called. They made it right.

More than right.

While it wasn't intentional... I did break the card. That was on me.

They're even going to send a replacement for the other (working) 560 TI, along with a prepaid box to ship it back.

Cool good to see that level of service, it's rare now-a-days. If I already wasn't hooked on the Asus and Gigabyte coolers this would inspire me to go for EVGA.

Oh and also someone had recommended to me using a toothpick to hold the fans in place when dusting, compressed air can actually rev them up to a higher than intended RPM damaging them, may have been a card defect anyways if the whole blade was going to fly off like that, generally it's the bearings that go if you spin them too fast.

I'm eventually going to take this down...

But I figured I'd leave it up just to point out how well EVGA deals with dumbasscery like this.

While the numbers/benchmarks don't quite support it, I will say this:

The 650 TI Boost performs a little better than both 560 TI's in real world testing.

I was playing BF4 on medium settings @ 720p with both and am now playing on ultra @ 1600x900 with one 650 TI B.

Shame on me. EVGA wins.

That's exactly what happened. It revved up so loudly it started to make a whining sound... then pop :/

Think i'll be taking your advice next time.

...but yeah... it was several blades. The card originally had two fans so if I just really don't think they were designed for that kind of pressure.

That's pretty awesome customer service that will change the options I was considering for my next card.

By the way, here's a recent performance chart from TechPowerUp.

Yeah. I think I'll stick with them from now own.

A buddy of mine had the same reaction when I first explained it on the phone (Newer generation didn't justify sending a lower model)

But in all reality it performs better all around.

I did the burn-in benchmark with furmark on each of them:

Impressed all around... not so much with the charts and numbers... but the all around performance.
