Lately my computer has been running at slow speeds. It only happens when my internet is connected. I did some research and according to renegadesail it is a "Ghost Rider". I'm not exactly sure what this is or how this would happen. I would also like to know how to get rid of it.

If you have a secure network and no malware, how is the hacker slowing your computer?

Is it equally slow with wireless and wired connections?

There are a number of possible causes, and that is only one possibility. It is very easy to secure your network -- use WPA2 personal with AES encryption, a new passkey, and turn off WPS if that is an option in your router. Also best to change your default router user ID and password -- and write everything down since you will need it again.

You should also download and run the free and very good Glary Utilities from HERE. It will clean up your registry, clear out malware, and clean out temp files and caches. I use it often on many machines and it works very well.

That didn't work, but thanks for the information. When I am connected to the internet my computer is slow and when i'm not my computer is fast. So it must be a hacker.

I think I figured it out. I created a new user account, and that one worked fine so I transferred data and it works perfectly on the new account. So I deleted the old one. Thanks for your help.
