the pc does work ok, but when i play wow, sometimes it crashes. with the older chip, i didnt get any crash. same bios version so i didnt upgrade from F2.

might it be the chip that is bad? is there any other thing that i can see?

it could be the cpu is overheating. try to re-apply thermal paste and re-seat the cpu.

Your motherboard might need a bios update to work with the dual core CPU.

What motherboard are you using? My last CPU was a x2 4400+. It needed a fair amount of voltage to get a significant overclock, which resulted in high heat values. I was always limited with my overclock by heat. Maybe the last owner damaged it by excessive voltage/heat. Also, what version of windows are you using?

Do you know your processors stepping code? If not CPU-Z will show it. On gigabytes site there are several bios updates that show enhancements for CPU compatibility.

Does the crashing when you play WOW just crash the game or does it crash windows also? Are any error messages given when it crashes?

You mentioned that your CPU temps are 34-38c. Is this at idle or when playing WOW? Do you have a separate video card? If so, what kind and what temps is it showing while playing the game?
