Im waiting for the delivery of my replacement motherboard for my dell dimension 4700. I also purchased 2-1GB memory sticks. The old motherboard had 2-256MB and 1-512MB stick. I have only 4 slots for memory. Can I use the old memory sticks after installing the new, and whats the best order to install them. The slots are labeled 1,2,3,4. I assume this is the order that memory is installed. Im also assuming I should use the 512MB and 1- 256MB stick along with the new 2 - 1GB sticks thank you

I wouldn't add the extra memory you have. By mixing different sized memory sticks you loose the speed you gain from dual channeling. Spend a few extra bucks and buy another set of 2-1GB sticks (make sure they are the same speed). If you can't afford it, and only if your system is running out of RAM, then go ahead and try adding 1 512Meg and 1 256Meg stick of ram.
