Upgrading RAM from 6GB to 8GB

How much effect will it have on gaming when I add another 2GB stick to my current 3 when gaming? Increased fps? Less stuttering?

would probably work pretty well. I don't think you can get much higher speed out of your processor.

would be a better kit, but again I don't know if it will work at 1600, or if you'd have to lower the speed in the bios...


PS: update your bios before you pull old memory, new memory + old board could cause an issue.

It depends on the game, most games honestly don't take you much if any over 6gb, and unless you're doing a lot of things in the back the difference won't be dramatic. It will help but it won't be huge. Additionally if your other 3 sticks are all a mixed bag, adding another random stick to the mix might actually cause more issues than it helps. You are welcome to try and we can probably get you stable by changing voltages if it doesn't just work, but if I were going to 8gb I would buy a 2x4gb kit and drop it in, not piece together a 4x2gb kit.


heck you can get 8gb of pretty fast memory for less than 60 bucks right now on newegg.

Alright, thanks for the answer, I think I'll switch my 3x2 RAM out for 2x4, because my RAM is fairly old and it seems that 8GB is the sweet spot for games these days.

Do you have any suggestions on which ones to buy for a M4A88T-M motherboard?
