hi guys,

I am waiting for my new rig to be shipped, I will have two r9 290s in it.
I want to mod a case, but i'll need to connect the two gpus through a couple of ribbon cables to their respective pci-e slots.
Now, should I buy two 16x pci-e cables or two 8x cables?
I now that plugging two gpus to my z87x-ud4h will set the pci-e slots electrically at 8x, so I am not sure if two 16x cables will do the job.

Thanks in advance

Your cards are going to be in x8/x8 mode regardless of whether you go with x16 or x8 cables. But go with the x16 cables so that if you get a motherboard in the future that is capable of x16/x16, you won't have any limitations. But for now I don't think the x8 cable is going to yield any performance difference compared to the x16 cable.

thanks thismafiaguy,

I actually wanted to buy the 16x ones, but I thought that they weren't compatible with my r9 290s xfired running at 8x. I remember one guy had this kind of issue, but maybe I am wrong
