6 Gb ram
Asus P5k mobo
Antec earthwatts 380w 80+ (with one 6-pin)

sry for bad english :c

Solution

Yes, the extra pin gives the power to the GPU that the motherboard cannot supply.
If you plan on overclocking the R270, you would need to upgrade your PSU anyway, as then it will draw more power. The recommended PSU for the 270 is 450W, and 500W for the 270X:

but these figures allow for some leeway, so often a slightly less powerful but good PSU can cope, given the decent output on the +12V rail for the GPU and CPU. As I said, though, if you want to overclock, this could push the PSU...

So, I can't use the converter molex to 6 pin , R9 270 is the 10$ cheaper then 270x it's the same preformance with overclocking ,
That means the 2xpins in 270x is just for lettle bit more power

You may not even be able to post under 380w with the 270x. The R9 series seems to be rather power hungry in comparison to it's HD counterparts. I'd suggest at least 450w for the full system with 550w or higher being perfect.

R9 270 msi 1x6pin and it's the fastest 150w card on the world , so i guess this card is less power consumption and it's more power full thin GTX 560 Ti, and it's the same R9 270X (2x6pin) with overcloking from 975mhz to 1050 which all got it stable and no issue

P.S: I will not overclocking the R9 270 maybe i will do if i got an other psu

Thanks anyway, I will buy it soon

Hello,

I have the same PSU and was thinking of getting the R9 270 (upgrading from my HD6770). Is it working fine with your PSU?

I was looking to grab it at the end of January, but I figure a new PSU is in order as well.
