Hey guys, i'm stumped.

i5 2500k (back to stock)
16 gigs of corsair ddr3 (memtest'd)
2 x crucial m4 ssds in raid 0 (removed from raid array and formatted)
7970 (not showing any issues)
asrock z68 extreme 4 gen 3 (think this is the problem)

Since yesterday i keep getting very slow lock ups and crashes. It takes a long time to grind to a halt, task manager doesn't work and eventually crashes, everything is unresponsive except the mouse then flash to post where it often doesn't restart.

i reformatted, ran one ssd, ran memtest, no issues on all the easy stuff. Skype has given me an i/o error and it seems to lock up when i make it do reading and writing so i think it might be the sata chip on the motherboard?

Should i try to RMA my motherboard or is there something else i can do??

Thanks guys!

Answered: Ahnilated was right. It was both of my SSDs that died at the same time. nightmare but we figured it out! Thanks!

Solution
I/O errors usually deal with a hard drive / SSD related issue. I would do some testing on the drives, the cables, the slots to see if you are having an issue there.

thanks for the quick reply!

I should of mentioned this computer has been in operation for about a year. Initially with 2 ssds in raid 0 and since yesterday, with one as C drive.

the cables are all fine as far as i can tell, i plugged them firmly back in today.

what kind of tests can i do on the drives?

i ran chkdsk on a fresh windows install. i'll do so again then see if crucial have anything specific. Thanks!

Then if it isn't the drives you start running into a nightmare scenario. You are going to have to swap out almost every piece of hardware to find out what is causing the issue. It could be something stupid like a cold solder joint and those are a nightmare to find on a board if you know what to look for.

I just installed windows to both drives seperately and they're both giving me the same problem. So either both SSDs have died at once or it's something else. damn it.
