Hey !

I currently have a E8400 Intel CPU so a LGA775 socket. And I want a upgrade since it's not good enough for Battlefield 4 on lowest settings. My RAM and GPU is doing fine but my CPU is constantly at 99%. What would you suggest?

Thanks

I really would not get an i7, if you want Intel I would go with an i5 like the 4670K and an ASUS or ASRock Z87 board. If you live next to a Microcenter store go there, otherwise Newegg has some nice motherboard prices right now like the ASUS Z87-A. I've built a number of machines on that board and it is excellent, especially at the current price of $99 after rebate.

Yes, the i5-4670K uses socket 1150 as does the i7-4770K. Just be sure not to mix the newest Z87 board that is 1150 socket and an older CPU. The newer 1150 socket motherboards have many more native Intel SATA 6Gbps and USB 3 connectors than the older boards.

I would use an ATX mid-tower that has a good number of fans or at least fan grilles that looks like what you want. Looks in a case are important. It is also pretty nice if the USB 3 and front sound ports are on or near the top. I have some cases where they are at the very bottom, which is a pain.

I suggest that you make a separate thread under cases for more opinions, as I tend to usually buy expensive high quality Lian Li full towers for me and most clients want a specific case for HTPC systems, although I really do like the SilverStone SST-PS07B like THIS ONE if you want a smaller case -- it is limited to a microATX board though.

I used to use a lot of Antec 900 like THIS ONE as it is sturdy, has lots of room and good ventilation at a fairly low price.
