I have this LGA 775 mb with a core 2 duo e8400 cpu. My current graphics card HIS 5850 is starting run hotter than normal during gaming and the fans are so loud I'm getting nervous there will be a meltdown. I'm running three Monitors on this system so I'm assuming the stress on the card is taking its toll.

My question is I want to get this XFX 7970 graphics card without upgrading my computer(yet). My Question; will I get a good upgrade in performance (FPS) while gaming or will my system hold this graphics card back?

My own assumption is that in regards to gaming the 3.0ghz clock speed on the duel core 8400 should be enough, but I'm not sure about the motherboard.

Thanks for the help

That card will bottleneck on your system. No question about it. But since you realize you have an older rig, I'd assume you are thinking of replacing it sometime in the next year or so? If that's the case then why not get this card and use as much of it as your system allows and let the rest bottleneck away, then transfer it to your new rig?
Just my two cents.
P.S.: I also have a Core 2 Duo E8400 and I JUST (hours ago) bought a GTX 650Ti SSC. I don't care that it's best would be a bit more than my rig could handle. Next year, when I build my next rig, that card will be what I start with- until I upgrade it ;)
