Hi there,
I'm planning to buy a M5A99Fx R2.0 motherboard, which has 4 gpu slots (2 on 16x and 2 on 4x) which I will use in crossfire

What should i buy, 4x 1Gb radeon 6450 (AX6450) or 2x 2Gb radeon 7870 (MSI7870)?

The 6450s would be 63$ or 123$ i'm not sure, and the 7870s would be 280$..
What should I do ?

Go with the 2 7870's, crossfiring 4 is simply too much heat and too much heartache. You will also run into some minor issues with the PCI slots since only 2 of them are 16x. I had 2 7870's crossfired for a long time and everything ran pretty much maxed without issue, the only problem I ever had was that crossfire in general is just a pain with stuttering and the such. Really, the best suggestion I can give is to throw away the crossfire idea and put the money you would spend on 2 7870's towards a single 280x or 7970.

I've actually used both those mainboards in which I gave them both away. For the Gigabyte 990FX I would suggest against the UD3, go for the UD5 or UD7, the m5a99fx had issues with my 8350 but ran marvelously under an old 6 core Thuban so maybe that was just bad luck for me. Between the two I would say go with the Gigabyte if you can go up to the UD5 version ($160 or so). The absolute best you could do is the Sabertooth 990FX, been throwing it in machines for a few months now and never had a problem with any of them.

Be sure you have a good spacious case for the crossfire, good airflow is key to keeping them running perfectly.

apparently UD3 supports 2 Way CF/SLI
UD5 supports 3 Way CF/SLI
UD7 supports 4 Way CF/SLI

but if I only crossfire 2 GPUs, why would I need more than UD3?
