I have a seagate barracuda 500GB ES hard drive that I found in a computer while looking around my Dad's office which he had a bunch of broken computers. I don't know what is on the hard drive, because I do not have a computer to plug it in to. I have parts coming in to me today from Amazon, and I am planning to build Friday, but I want to clean install Windows 7, and since it was a office computer, the computer would have a OEM motherboard bounded version on it. I want to empty it completely, so I can have my personal data on it. Is there anyway to do this from the bios, or do I need Windows on the computer to do so? Please help, I am doing this for a school project and its do Monday.

Also, if you are only using this as a data drive in the new PC then wait to install the drive until after the OS is installed on the drive you want it to install to (assuming you ordered a new drive for the OS - not quite clear above.)

When the new PC is up and running (driver installed etc) then you install the Seagate and use disc management to reformat the drive (erasing it in the process)

You can use a linux live cd or something like Hirens or the Ultimate Boot CD to do this and I do recommend that you do so that you can run full diagnostics on the drive, several times (like once a day), and be sure the drive wont quit on you in the first few hours.
