Is my CPU bottlenecking me in games?

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong area. My CPU is a stock AMD Phenom II X6 1045t clocked at 2.7GHz, I also have an MSI Radeon HD 7870 GHz edition card, also at stock speeds and my RAM is 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance. When trying to play games such as Battlefield 4, I get high fps of 60-90, but very low drops down to 30 or 40 frequently even on low settings. I was wondering if my CPU is bottlenecking my GPU, and if so could I overclock the CPU to fix this problem, or will I be forced to buy a new CPU?

  1. After using hwmonitor I see that the CPU hits about 35-38 degrees celsius when idle, and 45-48 degrees celsius under load, is this too much?
  2. The CPU Usage is hovering around 63-78% when playing games and the temps are around 48 degrees celsius.
  3. yes its a cpu bottleneck. bf4 loves powerful cpu's. an 8350 or i5/i7 3xxx/4xxx.
  4. After running Prime95 I got CPU Temps as high as 63 degrees celsius and usage of 100% all throughout the tests. In MSI Kombustor everything seemed fine as my GPU was pulling 90 FPS on average with a temperature of around 50 degrees and a usage of 99% throughout the stress test.

If everything runs fine i would oc cpu it to atleast 3.0-3.2 ghz would improve alot. ive seen people with 1055t running 7970 without bottleneck

Okay, what CPU cooler would you recommend for this?
