Hello,

My CPU:
Intel Core i3 4130

VGA:
Quadro K600

Motherboard
Gigabyte Z87M-D3H

HDD:
4 TB WD Black

RAM:
Corsair Dominator Platinum 2400C10 2 x 8GB

Speakers:
2.0 Speakers

Keyboards
Mouse
Casing
2 fans

My questions are:

1. Would this PSU be enough for my system? >>> Corsair VS 550

2. Corsair VS 550 is not a 80+ rated PSU, would it be okay using this PSU on a Z87 motherboard?
The shop owner told me that Z87 motherboard requires 80+ gold rated PSU, is this true or just some made up nonsense?

Solution
yes 550 W is enough, and no you don't NEED a 80+ gold PSU. The 80+ certification has nothing to do with motherboard compatibility.

Is there a reason you are getting a Quadro card? I hope you are not buying this system for gaming.

The Corsair VS 550 would be fine for the system you list. 80+ ratings are for the efficiency of the unit. How little is wasted in heat and inductive/capacitive reactance.

MBs do not use any power in and of themselves. It depends what is plugged into the MBs. A high end MB would be expected to have a high end graphics card and processor along with lots of memory sticks. But there is no reason it would require any higher rating PSU than any other MB.
