First time builder (...or at least I am going to try)

I have the following components: i7-4770k, z87 sabertooth, kraken x60, and the nzxt phantom 820. I am about to purchase a 500GB Samsung SSD, 16gb of 1866 ram, and a GTX 780 (maybe the ti, not sure if worth the extra $200 yet).

*I am looking hard at PSU's now because that's one of the last pieces I need to start building and I feel it may be one of the more important components. I have had several pre-built cpu's over the last decade and the only component I have ever seen fail and need replacing is the PSU!

Right now I am wondering if I should get Seasonic PLATINUM-1000 ATX 1000 Power Supply ($239 on Amazon) or if Seasonic 850W 80 Plus Gold ATX12V/EPS12V Power Supply ($174) would be enough. I am leaning towards seasonic over corsair because I have read a lot of reviews about the quality seasonic puts into their PSU's.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, and Happy Gobble Gobble.

I recommend something between 750-860 watts should be sufficient for overclocking. What specific card are you trying to buy? The best Nvidia GPU companies are: Asus, EVGA, and MSi. Any card from them will work great. Other companies still make good cards, but the above mentioned three companies have the most/best reviews.

I recommend changing the CPU cooler to a Corsair H100i, and make sure to either get a Samsung 840 Pro or EVO. Pro's last longer and are faster but also a bit more expensive. Unless you are running multiple monitors or are using extremely graphic intensive programs, you don't need the 780ti. Finally, Corsair PSU's are just rebranded Seasonic's, but cost extra so just get the Seasonic 850 Watts. Good luck with your build this thanksgiving :)

So...corsair PSU is ok to save some $ on... and I can save another $200 by sticking with 780 -ti. How about wattage ?

...and unfortunately I cant switch the cooler. I bought it in a combo with the case. Did u hear something bad about it?

Edit: the ssd I am talking about is the evo...its $339 for a 500gb on amazon right now and the pro is about $100 more. Didnt think I would need the pro

Whatever goes on sale this holiday! I will make sure its either evga or asus....and I have gathered that the single best graphics card I can afford would be the best bet. So, either the 780 or the 780ti...

I recommend the GTX 780 for just gaming on ultra on a single monitor and the 780Ti for video editing, extremely graphic intensive games, multi-monitor displays, etc. Tomshardware just published the video card hierarchy chart: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html and GPUBoss: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-780-Ti-vs-GeForce-GTX-780 . Best of luck building your new system this Thanksgiving :)
