Asus gryphon Z87 crossfire

Hey with the Asus grphon Z87 can I crossfire two 7970s reference models. What PCIE slots will i be using?
Will there be a expansion slot between them? Any pictures will be highly appreciated.

Yes, you can, and you'll be using the 2 shades of Brown Slots. The cards will run at 8x.
There will be one expansion slot in between the cards but it's a 1 x PCIe 2.0 x1 slot, which you may not exactly be using ....

Yes , there will be.
There will be just enough space between the 2 cards for the upper one to suck in enough air, but it's not going to be One Whole Slot Wide....
The cards are both dual slot wide.... They are going to have a tough time with air, but, a properly placed fan in the case will work wonders.

So what pcie slots would I use? The top one and bottom?

If you use those 2 you'll be stuck with a 4x performance, go for the first 2, they'll be fine.
Keep an eye on temps if you feel there's a heat build up. But otherwise you ought to be fine.

But then there will be hardly any gap between the cards :L My single 7970 reaches 80 degress while gaming. Is the performance much worse on 4x

You can try an get a PCIe Riser if your case has some extra slots ....
4x is really not going to give you your moneys worth.
