Hi

Got a AMD Phenom 965 BE and a MSI R7770 1GB along with a 120 gb ADATA 6gb/s SSD on a old DDR 2 Motherboard. Given the low prices on DDR 3 Rams I want to upgrade.

Whats a decent cheap DDR 3 motherboard for this setup in Canada? Around 85-90 CDN $ perhaps?

I assume the board needs SATA III 6gb/s to make full use of the SSD right?

Looking for a no frills, single PCI Express x16 ( no plans on ever getting 2 cards so no need for Crossfire ) motherboard that can OC the Phenom x4 965 to 4ghz. ( EDIT: actually nevermind getting to 4ghz, I understand that might be an issue with a cheap board )

Currently it's OCed to 3.8 with an aftermarket cpu cooler

Thanks for the help in advance! First time asking here, the answers on this site have helped me before when researching stuff.

Get this GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3P Mobo.. It costs around 58.22 Canadian Dollar right now....

It will support you Phenom processor and it has the latest AMD 970 chipset.. Also it has SATA III 6gb/s for your SSD..

It is Full ATX , that means 4 RAm slots (Max supported 32 GB) and has 2 PCI-e ports (evn though u dont need one) .. Good for Overclocking as well !!

It seems that is the US newegg.com site, newegg.ca is what I use to ship/pickup to a Canadian address, and that lists the price at CDN $99.99.

Through the night of searching, I've kinda settled on getting the ASRock 970 Extreme3

http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_1207_1205_335&item_id=042746

Leaving the CDN $30 rebate aside it comes to 89.99 CDN and I can pick it up locally. Hopefully the rebate comes, never actually filed one. The catch is that it's probably not the R2.0 version and as such lacks the header USB 3.0 ports and better integration with Windows 8 as I understand it. So not missing much hopefully.

Hoping to pair that with DDR3 1600
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231416 @ 49.99 CDN

or for 3 dollars more DDR3 1866
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460

but since that runs at a faster speed, I am not sure if the x4 965 supports it at that speed.

What do you guys think? That Asrock seems to tick all the boxes, and the extra of Crossfire as well, although since it's 16x and 4x I do not see the value in running crossfire ever with one card stuck on 4x.
