Opinion on current motherboard situation.

Hello, everyone.
Recently I purchased a new Intel Core i7-3770k and tried to install it into my MSI P67A-C43 (B3). It didn't work, the computer would just turn on for a few seconds then turn off. I tried updating the BIOS, changing out RAM, reseating the fan, nothing worked. I tried putting in my old processor, but bent some pins in the process. Do you guys think I should go with a new motherboard, or try and bend the pins back and see if I can get the i7 to work?

The i7 should work with that board. If you have bent the socket pins then you will need a jewelers screwdriver or other tiny head driver. Remove the board completely from the case (easier to see what you are doing) then with the small screwdriver CAREFULLY push each pin back to an upright straight position. If the pins are even slightly out of alignment then the CPU will not work. Once happy re seat the CPU and heat sink when the board is out of the case (put the board on some card). With the board still out connect the PSU, ram and a monitor. Boot the board and see if you can get into bios (you dont need a HDD connected to do this). If you can get into bios then thats a good indication that the CPU is seated and working if not you will get a CPU error message or beeps.

As a note make sure you earth yourself first to remove any static from yourself. In an ideal world an anti static band and mat should be used but a piece of plain card will do for the mat and touch something metal thats connected to the mains to discharge yourself to earth.

you updated the bios, did you check if the processor is supported? i mean, it should, but there is a list for the supported cpu's.

this MOBO supports i7-3770k with BIOS version v5.1. do you update with this BIOS? http://us.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-C43--B3-.html#/?div=CPUSupport
by the way, what CPU cooler do you use?

I just use the stock one the CPU came with. I did update with a different BIOS, and now I feel like an idiot for not noticing that one. I am kind of new to this. And Zink, I'll be sure to remove the board and be a lot more careful when I'm bending the pins back later today. Thanks!
