Potential CPU/MOBO switch, is it worth it??

I have an i5 2400 with a Z68 gigabyte mobo (GA-Z68P-DS3), with the opportunity to swap for a first gen i7 950 and x58 Sabertooth that are lightly used.

My setup was bought used and I don't know how much it's been through. Is this worth it? Is there any way to swap without wiping everything?

EDIT: Thanks for the answers so far. I'm wondering about reliability first of all - my mobo doesn't seem great but the sabertooth seems like it will last forever. I would also gain native usb 3.0 support. I would just go haswell with new mobo but this swap to i7 won't cost me anything.

There may be issue with memory. X-58 use 3 channel memory.
So you need 3 or 6 sticks to get max out memory. It really makes huge difference to memory speed.

I have X-58 sabertooth + 960 and they work really well.
Its my 2ndbuild. Now I did upgrade to X-79 build with 3930k.
But good option can be LGA 1150 4670k / 4770k / Xeon 1230V3

Older 1155 cpu are cheaper and they can found really cheap price (used ones)

Z68 is supporting new 1155 cpu if you have bios uppdate to new one.
Then good buy can be 3570k / 3770k. Orxeon 1230V2if you do not OC.

I did go fromm X-58 to X-79 with old windows. Did work fine after I did install new drivers. It took about 5min to windows figura out what to do.
After that did just load new drivers to...

It is difficult to change motherboards without having to format, but it is possible, I have done it a few times.
The key is that the chipsets must be the same, or the new one must be capable of using the drivers of the old one.
Hope this helps

And look this.

No much performance boost.

But look 3570k vs 950. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/701?vs=100

And with 3770k. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/551?vs=100

Look other options too with that benchmark. Make options to mach your preference.
