Hello,
I have 2.1 ram on windows 7 32 bit so I thought of buying 2 more since it can only go to 4 anyway.
Having read though through some forums I have found out it actually goes up to only 3.25 (usually)
This new ram I am buying has better speed than the old one (they are both ddr3) How can I choose that they wasted 0.75 ram is from the old one and not the new one? Since the new one has better speed, I want to get the full 2 ram from the new one and 1.25 from the old one. Is this possible? Or is it done automatically?

Solution
You cannot "choose to use the fastest RAM first" because memory controllers do not support running DIMMs at different clocks and timings so all RAM in your system has to run with the same settings, usually the slowest common denominator.

When u say "lowest common denominator" what do you mean? because surely u don't mean 9600 because that's 1600 and 1160 lowest common denominator do u mean maybe highest common multiple? please humour me because I don't know much about pc.

I meant fastest timings out of the slower of the two. If you have 1600-10-10-10 and 1333-9-9-9, you may need to run the RAM at 1333-10-10-10 for stable operation, which is the slowest possible combination of their individual recommended timings.
