I finished my first pc build yesterday and went out to buy Windows 8.1 OS. I came home to install it and it gave me a hard time. It would crash and freeze my computer. I could not get it to the personalization screen. I tried again today and I got to the Windows 8 home screen. I downloaded my Nvidia drivers for my video card. I tried to download the msi motherboard drivers but there was none to install. After the nvdia drivers were installed, the pc restarted and now it keeps crashing, freezing, and restarting just like before except on the login and it will do the same if I can manage to get on the home screen. I tried disabling automatic restart but it still keeps restarting. I don't know what to do. I just want windows 8.1 to be updated and for my pc to not crash. My gaming pc is useless if I cannot even stay on the home screen.

Before we start, make sure that the Windows disk isn't scratched/warped, otherwise, it sounds like there is a problem with your SSD/HDD.
Can you boot into the BIOS and stay in it for a half hour without problems?
If you can't, there is an issue with one of your components other than the HDD/SSD. I'm sure with the help of the internet you can diagnose that yourself.
If you are stable in the BIOS:
In the case of an HDD, format it by writing zeroes to the entire drive.
If it is an SSD, do a secure erase using the parted magic method.
After this, install Windows 8.1 again.
If you are faced with the same problems, then your HDD/SSD is bad and you should RMA it. It is very unlikely that you received a corrupted Windows 8.1 disk.

My windows disc is not scratched or anything. I can stay in my BIOS and the pc will not restart. I will take your advice and format the HDD (In this case a Western Digital 1TB Caviar blue) and try reinstalling windows 8.1 again. I will see how it goes. Thanks
