Hey I was not sure where to put this but I assumed that this would be a good place as its a problem to do with networking I think?

I am looking to fix a problem that is my computer sometimes receives pretty big latency problems while playing games or downloading things for example:

- WoW normally 30ms ping but now everyday it seems to be over 2000 world ping
- CS:GO always around 40 ping but every day now during games I get massive changes from 40 up to 900
- Downloading is normally 1.2Mbs per second but a lot of the time nowadays drops to 300-400Kbs

My question is at this moment I am using a USB wireless adapter to connect to my router could this be the problem? just getting old or broken would I be better getting a wireless PCI NIC or getting a massive ethernet cable and drilling a hole in my floor to connect wired. OR is this most likely an ISP problem.

Any help much appreciated thanks.

Hi, the problem may be caused by the following factors:

a) Your wireless network is set on the same frequency channel like the another network - you can try to change it in your access point

b) You can try to update you wireless access point firmware and download the latest drivers for your USB wireless adapter (USB adapter should work same way as PCI one)

c) Try to find what is your router / wireless / modem device IP address and try to ping it via command line. The ping command may look like: ping 192.168.1.1 so you will see the ping latency on your local LAN network. If you find this latency good up to 10ms all time... then the problem is probably caused by your ISP but I suppose the issue will be most probably in your local LAN wireless network so the tips a) b) will help.

Good luck ;-)

Thanks for the reply however I have discovered that as well as my PC, my phone, my sisters phone and my dads pc which is wired are all experiencing the same problems so I guess this must be a problem with the ISP, I think we are going to change to BT.
