I'm building a new pc and need to replace the core parts (mobo, cpu, gfx, ram), and have come up with this spec I'd love to get some input/opinions on. It will be used for gaming, game production and various computery things for my university course, and I'd love for it to last some years:

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3, Socket-2011 ATX, X79, 4xDDR3, 4xPCIe(3.0)x16, SLI/CFX, SATA6Gb/s, USB 3.0, UEFI
CPU: Intel Core i7-4820K Socket-LGA2011, 4-Core, 3.7GHz, 10MB, 130W, Ivy Bridge-E
RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (4x4GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Quad Channel
GFX: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 3GB PhysX CUDA "Windforce 3X"

Hello!

I think it is ok, but I would make some changes:

Mobo: Gigabyte x79 up4 only about 10€ more and it has 8 Dimm (max 64GB RAM)
CPU: Intel Core i7-4820K Socket-LGA2011 if it is for work is OK, because it is less hot than a 4770k
RAM: Gskill Ripjaws Z 2400MHz 4x8GB (32GB) I think it is more reliable than Kingston, and have a fan cooler in the box. The speed is not very important, 1866 could be ok (cost less)
GFX: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 3GB PhysX CUDA "Windforce 3X" I think is ok for gaming and working, a lot of alications coul use the CUDA power.

I am working whith 3D Studio, and big amount of RAM is very important, I suggest you tu buy 32GB or 64 if you can afford that.
I don´t know if you will work whith 3D Studio, but some external Render Motors uses CUDA, ant the 780 is OK for that (better a 780ti XD).

Any particular reason? It's another £40 for the UP4..

Well anywhere I can get it from the UP4 is about €50 more expensive than UP3, and we're not really using anything too memory intensive, so if memory is the only reason to upgrade then I doubt it will be worth it. We're not working with 3D studio, and I don't think I'd ever need more than 32gb of ram.

Ah yeah I feel stupid now, I forgot to change the ram when deciding on that mobo.. I'd probably just go with 2133mhz instead tbh. Thanks :)
