Eyefinity Setup - Specific Monitor/GPU Quesiton

Hello all,

This is my first post in the Tom's hardware community and so I would just like to say thank you for all the help this community has given me in the past and that this is actually the reason I decided to join.

Now to the issue at hand:
I am looking to get a 3 monitor Eyefinity setup to really push the power of my GPUs (2 MSI R7970 OC). I have finally narrowed down a specific monitor I want, which would be this: http://

However, as per the limitations of Eyefinity, I realize that you need any combination of DVI, VGA, or HDMI for the first two monitors and each subsequent monitor requires a display port. Now my graphics card comes with 1 DVI-D port, 1 HDMI port, and 2 mini Display ports. The monitor linked above comes with 2 HDMI ports and 1 VGA port. Would I be able to hook up one monitor with a DVI to HDMI cable, the second monitor with a straight HDMI cable, and the last monitor with an active mini display port to DVI adapter and then another DVI to HDMI cable? Would these connections work and is this the only viable system of connections there is for these types of ports? I would like to stay away form VGA if possible. Thank you for your answers in advance.

One monitor has to be display port. The other 2 can be dvi or hdmi. There are adapters like mini dp to hdmi adapter. Get active adapters not passive or else they won't work.

Yes I have an ACTIVE mini DP to DVI adapter. I am simply wondering if I can then hook up a DVI to HDMI cable to this adapter to make it work for the third monitor?

It should work, but it's not good to do too many conversions. It's best to go active mini dp to hdmi. So a hdmi cable can hook up directly to your monitor.

Thank you! I appreciate your help and I will be going with the mini DP to HDMI.

3 monitors

1 directly to hdmi
2nd a dvi to hdmi cable
3rd a active mini dp to hdmi adapter and use hdmi cable to hook it to monitor.

Most eyefinity hook up directly to their resepective ports, so I'm not so sure if eyefinity will work with that dvi to hdmi cable.

2nd way
1 directly to hdmi
1 active dvi to hdmi adapter
1 active mini dp to hdmi adapter
Connect all monitors with hdmi cables.

Or 1 directly to hdmi
2x active mini dp to hdmi adapters
And also connect the other two with hdmi cables.

Alright, and you are absolutely sure that Eyefinity will work with using two DP connections?

Yeah 2x active mini-dp to hdmi adapter should work because some eyefinity card only comes with mini display ports and nothing else.
Also with a 1.2 MST hub and 1.2 MST capable monitor, it can hook up to 3 screen through a single mini display port.
