Hi there, need help with a build.recently my old asus mobo fried, taking the ram with it. so now i have an i5 661 laying around. the thing is i'm not sure if it still works. i cant find any new or used mobo so far.

now i was thinking of putting together a new basic rig for my dad to use. he does magazines and uses adobe illustrator and photoshop, mostly the basic functions only. so,

1. is it worth it to get the required components for the i5 661
2. would putting together either an A4-4000 or Pentium G2030 be better? since it is easier to get
3. if going for the new rig, which one?

my dad currently uses a Pentium 4 to do all his work, so i think the lower tier cpu is good enough.

thanks for your patience and answer :)

I would go with the Pentium g2030 out of the options listed. Why that particular Pentium? There are usually better Pentium values out there like the g3220 for example. The A4-4000 is better for HTPC duties. The i5 would be fine. I'm sure you can find used parts for it pretty easily. You could grab a $20-30 video card to go with it like the HD 5450 or 6450 if you wanted.

I usually prefer building with new parts.

the price list i got from the sales person was from october, probably that's why g3220 wasnt on it, i'll try to get a new one. i just cant seem to find used parts so far, i'm from malaysia by the way, kinda makes it hard to find when online shops are limited. i'll keep in mind bout the video card since my dad doesnt really do very intensive stuff with his comp, so probably wouldnt need it at the moment.

Oh well just go for a new build. Maybe you can sell the i5? Something that is a good deal here in the US may not be a good deal for you over in Asia.
