Linux is a great system it has good memory management is stable the file system is good too also the terminal is a great tool...

but the user interface is a big piece of junk the way they devs think about it is in my opinion to try to make it unnecessary complicated since i see everything could be lot simpler linux aproach is to make everything in the terminal but guess what is unpractical...

just because of this linux wont ever be popular on desktops like it or not untill linux gets more gui oriented... lets be clear terminal is good but its not practical for some situations.

The UI difference is not necessarily the cause. LinuxMint, for instance, is very 'usable'.

A few years ago, my daughter was staying with me. I gave her an old laptop with Ubuntu on it. Boot, click on the FireFox icon...poof, internet. Did all she needed it to do.
She did not realize that it was not 'Windows" until a couple months later, and then only when I asked her how it was working.

The main thing is what does the user want to do? MS Office stuff? Pain. Games? Pain. Installing some random crap you find online? Pain.

But if they just need a basic PC, the average user may never know the difference.
And for a power user...they can manage just fine.
