What would be the best CPU to get under $400? I was thinking of maybe getting the Intel Core i7-4770K but I don't know if there are better ones out there for under $400.

It would be much appreciated if someone could help me. Thanks.

These guys have the two best picked out, the determining factor may well be - What are you planning to do with it? i.e. gaming - then prob the 4770K but if planning to do heavy multitasking, video editing, imaging, VMs, CAD, GIS things that that are memory intensive or using large data sets the the 4820K will prob be the best bet in large part to the larger cache and the quad channel MC (memory controller)
Hmm, does look like that most benchmarks the 4770k is faster than the 4820k. Only thing that it is definitely faster are the memory benchmarks. Of course, since the 4820k is based of IB, it would overclock better than the 4770k. However, stock performance would go to the 4770k.

Mostly gaming.

Both will be good gaming wise, the cost of the 4770K and associated mobo will be less. And actually for gaming the 4670K will more than suffice as you won't really need Hyper-Threading which is the big difference between the i5 4670K and the i7 4770K , that's a savings of around another $100 - all the savings could go to a better GPU which is what really comes into play with Gaming

Thanks for the reply. So should I get the i7 4770k with a new motherboard, or stick with my current AMD chipset motherboard and upgrade my AMD CPU, along with a video card? Or would switching to Intel be better overall?

My current specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
GPU: 1023MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (MSI)
Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
RAM: 8GB DDR3
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB
HDD: Western Digital WDC WD10EADS-65L5B1
Sound Card: ASUS Xonar D1

I'd actually buy an fx8320/fx8350 if you already have a motherboard that will support it. The 4670k/4770k will offer better performance, but you already have most of an Amd build already.

So, buy an octa-core Cpu, and upgrade the video card. Best gain for the money spent.
