I've got a MSI GTX 770 2GB and the need for VRAM is now more prominent in todays gaming world so what im wondering is would I be worth it to buy a second GTX 770 and would this make up for the VRAM on games like battlefield 4 and games in the future.

When you SLI the VRAM is mirrored in the second card, and doesn't add any additional memory to the equation. 2GB will be enough at 1920x1080. Most titles don't even offer the highest quality types of AA, and you'd be fine in most cases using the FXAA method that has a minimal hit on performance, up to MSAA x2 and x4.

If you think SLI increases VRAM , no it doesnt. The primary GPU and Second GPU share the primary GPUs memory.
I dont think you'd ever feel on BF4 that you need more VRAM. Todays game on their highest take no more than 1.8 GB on 1080p. So you would not need an upgrade for this year's and next years games , but surely some really badass games would surely force you to drop settings down. This , is the reason I always lure toward AMD for the mainstream range. I'd say do this -
1. Sell GTX 770 and wait for the aftermarket cooler versions of R9-290 to come and pick one.
2. Sell GTX 770 and pick R9-280X if you cant wait.
3. Sell GTX 770 and buy newer 4GB model.
4. Drop settings where the VRAM is causing lag. ( drop AA , texture , shadows , lod , etc )

Sorry i know that they mirror in SLI but im meaning will the extra power counterbalance the fact that the graphics card will have to go into the DDR3 ram which is much slower

What ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I'm guessing you mean that the GPUs will use the PCs DDR3 RAM right ? No they wont.

sorry about that most of the forums iv been on say that once a game needs more than the VRAM the card has got it uses ram instead. I am meaning the extra power of the 2nd GPU can that offset the fact that the cards will have a performance drop if they use RAM which is slower but i guess that's not relevant now because the cards wont use DDR3 ram once the GDDR5 is not enough.
P.S I am not an expert so I don't know everything about computers that's why I am asking on this website so could you cut me some slack

adding a second card will give you an increase in performance overall in any game that allows sli/crossfire running at 1080 the 2 gig of ram will be fine for todays games and likely next years. Also you are better off keeping one 770 as it should be running every game you play on max settings

if a game uses more than the 2gb dedicated vram on the card, it does spill into slower system memory. the speed of the cards will ofsett this slightly, but you will see a significant performance drop when this happens, and stuttering too as frame latency gets way out of hand when transferring from system ram to the video card processor.
