Is 768p good enough for gaming?

My monitor is 1366*768 16". I am going to get a gaming rig shortly. But, I am worried that my games will look like crap or if I am greatly missing out on my gaming experience. Seriously, I think I have some form of OCD about this... I need an honest answer.

I would say that I would be fine with that resolution, of course it is not as sharp a 1080p would be. But the nice thing about a lower resolution is you will be achieving higher fps then you would at 1080p. Not to mention that is pretty much the same resolution that the ps3 and xbox 360, and even alot of a xbox one games run at (these consoles do up scale to 1080p but it is not native 1080p so only small amounts better then native 720p)

The way it looks will depends on the monitor and game, most games will run great and look good at that resolution but if it bugs you that much you may as well get a decent 24 inch 1080p monitor, the ASUS models (while not IPS) are some of the best picture quality I have seen for about $120. See my signature for the one's I use, I believe they are $130-$140 at the moment.

Well I game on.. (and you will be surprised and sceptical) an 800x600 4:3 projector.
The resulting screen size is 8 feet wide and six feet high.
I play from a distance of approximately 14 feet and the image quality and overall gaming experience is great.
So to be 100% honest I wouldn't necessarily get hung up on the resolution you're playing at.
There's a lot more to (perceived) image quality than resolution, though with modern displays it *may* be your limiting factor.
