So I have in my system 1 2tb hard drive and 2 160 gb hard drives. I want to RAID the two 160 gbs together. I tried this but windows wouldn't boot if the sata mode was set to RAID and only works in ACHI. If anyone could tell me how I can raid 2 hard drive together but keep 1 intact that would be awesome!

I have:

P8Z77-V
GTX 660
i5 3570K
8gb Ram

Hi
you have 2 options :
Option One
- you use the HW storage controller to create the RAID 0 then you install the OS over this RAID
- some cases the OS setup do not see the drive created and you need extra drivers to be given to the setup to proceed

Option Two
- you use the Software Raid or you create the RAID 0 under Windows
- you setup the OS over drive 1 when you finish under OS you add 2-d drive in raid and you done

In case of using Low-End Raid Controllers - as they are in the standard OEM Motherboards i personally don`t see any advantages of any of the both methods so HW or SW is up to what you can manage to get install more easy.

you could try a RAID card, and do the RAIDing within the card's own firmware/software/bios, so that Win just sees the RAIDed set as one plain drive. basic RAID cards are cheap, like $20.

only question is - WHY? RAID0 isn't really RAID, and it isn't a backup or anything...

or do you want to install the OS onto the RAID setup??
