Hi all, I searched for this topic but I still don't understand.
I am planning on buying the Samsung 840 EVO-Series 250GB SATA III SSD on black friday for my computer. But the motherboard I have here " http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... " only has a SATA 3Gb/s connection.. Doesn't the SSD run at 6Gb/s?
1) Will this still hook up correctly?
2) Do I need to upgrade my MB to a 6Gb?
3) If I did upgrade to a 6Gb MB would I see a difference then the 3Gb I have now?
Thank you so much.

The SSD will only run at 3GB/s on that motherboard, but the cable connection is still the same. If you upgrade your motherboard, yes, you will see a difference, but maybe not as much as you think. Ask yourself do you really need it, at this point anyway? If you can get a new mobo for a good price and you can afford it, fine, but you could wait until you are doing a major upgrade and do it then.

SATA drives are backwards and forwards compatible, so your SSD will still hook up correctly.

Your SSD will run at 3Gb/s speeds since it will be connected to a 3Gb/s port.

If you want to get advertised Read/Write speeds, then yes, you will have to upgrade your motherboard.

Use your SSD for a couple of months or so and see if your enjoy the performance before thinking about upgrading your motherboard.
