I'm having trouble deciding between an HD 7990 and 2 4GB 770s in SLI.

The factors being PhysX, ShadowPlay and Micro-stutter. If I were to get the 7990 and attempt a hybrid PhysX setup the 770s are still £170 more expensive.

I've also heard that RadeonPro might be implementing a ShadowPlay equivalent so the real game changer here is smoothness.
Will the 7990's stutter be noticeably worse than the 770s'? Bearing in mind I usually notice even the slightest hiccup in my games.

I'll be playing in 2560x1440 at 120Hz and right now my GTX 680 is chugging along quite efficaciously, 70fps in Battlefield 4, Ultra with 2xAA. This is at 2560x1200 though and it's using 1.95GB of VRAM so I feel like it's time to get some more.

Well, to put it simply. I would go with the 7990 over 2 770's. Rather, I would go with a 7990 over any CF or SLI configuration, both are a pain in the ass in their own right in a lot of games and simply not worth the trouble.

its a good card but heats more and is more expensive than its worth. 280x is king right now.

The 7990 IS a CF configuration. It's dual GPU

My mistake, I keep forgetting what the 7990 is. In any case, I still stand by my point to try and avoid CF and SLI in general. To be fair to both, I've found that SLI generally works better in most games than CF but the last time I ran 2x 770's I seen worst performance than a single 290x.

i honestly try to stay away from sli and crossfire.

i prefer 1 high quality solution to 2xmid-tiers or 1xdualchips. not enought games support this technology and isnt polished enought to my taste

It's been statistically proven that certain ram speeds interfere with the performance of crossfire.

Ok from reading this thread theres alot of wrong in this so let me clear this up..

1. Honestly imo i wouldnt go the amd/crossfire route i mean sure they make good cards but nvidia/sli always had that edge on drivers/muti gpu support and thats what matters to me the most when gaming at such high resolutions and what not.

Now as far as gpus you should look into going either a gtx 780ti/780 then going sli down the road which will give you room to upgrade and which would push 120Hz/1440p alot better then the gtx 770s in sli would and would would sorta cripple your upgrade path. As far as micro stuttering i havent seen any issues so far and i would recommend sli to anyone and back to the 770s in sli dont get me wrong those is a power setup (higher then 2 680s=on par with a gtx 690) but if you dont wanna upgrade for a long time and you want to max out your setup i would take the higher end card/sli future

Edit: I take back what i said about sli..Go for the best single gpu you can afford
