Who'd have thought I'd be coming back to Tom's Hardware after you guys talked me into building my first computer, with what feels like no more knowledge than I started with back then. Things are constantly changing, renaming and discontinuing. It's hard to get a grasp on what is the best bang for the buck, where I should shave some money off here and put it there. So I come to you guys another time with a plea for help!

So here's my deal. I bought my old parts with the intention of upgrading asap but that time never came. Now my computer is showing its age and its time to start (almost) again. This time I have quite a few components I can still use which means I can put money towards where it counts! So I come to you, heroes of Tom's Hardware, Crusaders Of Rightful Information. To ask you to help me fine tune my parts choice. I've scoured the internet for a few days and nights now and this is what i've come up with. Let me know guys. Hoping I can snag some deals on some decent items with this black friday / cyber monday deal!

I would avoid reusing a PSU in a brand new build, but thats just me. I know the brand is quality, but If you can afford it, some solid 600/650 watt antec psu's on newegg today for like 50$ after rebates. Other than that, that built will be very solid and would have no problem playing any game at ~50/60fps

You've selected an overclock CPU and motherboard. But no aftermarket cooler. The stock cooler will not hold up.

Additionally, the RAM you have selected may cause issues if a) you choose one of the better large air coolers, and b) you want to add 2 more sticks of the same RAM.

Lastly....only a 256GB drive? I'd add a large HDD to that 256 SSD.

I'll upgrade the PSU a little bit longer down the road. That's for sure.

EDIT: After looking. I Might pick this guy up
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 650W

I was unaware that CPU was overclocked. Getting a CPU cooler wouldn't be an issue. Would you recommend a decent priced CPU cooler? And I'm not quite sure I understand the issue with the RAM.Do you mean the heat fins on top would not give clearance to a large CPU cooler? Can you elaborate. As far as the HDD goes I have a 500gb Seagate that I'm going to be using alongside the SSD. Sorry, I should have mentioned that.

The CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO is a good CPU cooler for about 30 bucks on newegg (Black Friday Deail). As for the PSU, if you can find a good deal on a modular power supply, they are much easier to deal with. Otherwise i saw a Corsair CX 600 watt PSU on newegg (another black friday deal) for 49.99.

That CPU cooler is now on the list! As far as that PSU I didnt even notice it wasnt modular. My Antec is and I'm not getting one that isnt!

For the CPU: It's not 'overclocked', but it is capable of being overclocked if you choose. If you do choose, the stock cooler that comes with the CPU will not keep up. And a better cooler is not a bad idea anyway. Quieter.
The above mentioned Hyper 212 EVO is a good, inexpensive, choice.

For the cooler and RAM....given 4 RAM slots, many of the popular (better performing) large air coolers will overhang slot 1. Tall, finned, RAM such as you have chosen will have a clearance issue. No real problem if you only use 2 in slots 2 & 4. But if you want two more of the same, and have a large cooler...there may be issues. And those fins are not necessary. They do little if anything for heat dissipation.

I have no plans to overclock, at least not in the near future. As for the RAM that is the best rated G.Skill I've come across at that price. I'd like to stick with that brand because they've done me well all these years. And I dont see myself upgrading to more ram anytime either.

Though the G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB Is looking good at $49
