I had built this comp from scratch. Installed everything and had it running fine for a few months. Only thing was that it would boot to bios menu and id select save and exit. Well I accidently hit load optimal settings and it messed up my comp. It doesnt boot and instead reads the "please select proper boot device or insert boot media". I left it alone for a couple months on vacation now I've tried tinkering with bios. Didnt work. I believe I had to tinker with it before to get it to install my os windows 7 64bit. Tried reattaching and unplugging sata and just about everything. Still not working. I'm sure it's a simple fix since I clicked accidently the reset button on bios but I cant remember what the correct settings are. My hdd and optical drives are recognized. I'm no tech or computer savy. Any ideas?

In BIOS you'll want to find the Boot Order menu. Ensure your OS HDD is listed either first in the list or second after an optical drive, it should be no further down the list than third entry (if optical and USB precede it) but try it in the first position. Also check that all of your cables are snugly connected

I do have my hdd set first first in boot. Still reads the same "select proper boot...". My hdd is on sata 4 and optical on sata 3, both snug in nicely. I even put new sata 6gb\s for both.

MB: M5A99FX pro. R2.0
CPU: AMD FX (tx) -6300 six core processor
Memory: 8gb G.Skill DDR-3 1600MHz
HDD: WDC Blue 500MB
Optical: Asus 24x Dvd- RW Serial ATA internal OEM

Maybe specs may help. Hopefully I was clear. I might add that I do remember tinkering with the sata config and cms the first time to get it to work. But to be honest I'm lost. Thank you for responding though.

Okay i'll do that. May take a day for me to try that out, this is my only comp. Could it be the hdd? It was working fine until I reset the bios like a dummy. When I do put in my windows 7 64 bit the installation says the disk controller is not compatable and to enable it.
