Hello,

I am going to buy some parts to build a new computer. Here's what I have so far:

i5-4670k Haswell 3.4 GHz
Asus Z87-A motherboard
Corsair AX760 power supply
G-skill trident x series 16 GB 2133 DDR3

I might be considering a 120 GB SSD. I already have a hard drive, Dell XPS case, and Sapphire 6870 HD 1 GB graphics card I will be using. I am going to re-install Windows 7 after a hard drive wipe.

Please offer any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Couple thoughts:

- that PSU is way more than you need, I'd recommend: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?nm_mc=AFC-TechBargains&cm_mmc=AFC-TechBargains-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA&Item=N82E16817207022 - $45 a steal deal

- I disagree with the i7 comment above, I'd stick with the i5, it's still plenty for games, and will perform very similarly to the i7, especially when overclocked

- you ought to upgrade your graphics while there are some great sales: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127663 - $100

- if you're thinking about an SSD, check this 120GB out: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820721107 - between 4am and 5am PT, $60 with promo EMCWWVL24

I don't think anyone can really say what's going to happen in the future with any certainty, who knows what will come down the road. Still, the difference it makes isn't big enough to warrant spending the extra dough, in my opinion. You can still max out games on an i5/decent graphics card. Beyond that is overkill.

If he keeps this system for 3 yrs max, then the i5 is ok, but if he wants to keep gaming on it even after that, the extra juice that the i7 has will certainly show.

If your pc is purely for gaming and only a little proffesional work then i5 is good, and as of now you only need 8gb ram because that's nowadays the standard for gaming, it can easily be upgraded later if needed.

you need to invest more on your graphics card. get a R9 280x or higher in order for your rig to cope up on the gaming demands on the next few years.
