XFX 7950 DVI-I to Component RGB?

Hi guys,

Does anyone know if the DVI-I output on this card can provide analogue RGB signal? I need to hook it up to an old CRT television through component SCART but I can find no documentation on whether the 7950 outputs RGB or YPbPr which the TV does not accept.

Thanks in advance,

Chase.

I think it does, I had the DVI I connected to a VGA adapter! I have the XFX 7950 DD
Also, in the manual says that if you're connecting the PC to VGA or another input rather than DP, HDMI or DVI , you have to use an adapter from the DVI I (or something like that, I'm just paraphrasing)

Thanks, but honestly I'd like some documentation. VGA is an adaption of YPbPr right? So i presumed that was the more likely output. Do you have any links/info on this cards video output on the DVI-I channel?

Look, the one ANALOG channel via DVI is a standard from AMD and Nvidia direct. That means you won't find ANY documentation to the XFX specifically.

Just trust us on this one.

It would make NO sense for XFX to NOT have Analog support on at least one DVI port as that would kill have their customers with Analog displays.

XFX specific is not necessary, any 7950 would be fine - do you have any documentation straight from ATI? I can't find any. I'm aware it has one analogue DVI port (DVI-I) what you seem to be completely missing is the fact their are multiple standards of analogue signal - as I have already pointed out.

If you cannot provide information on support for YCrCb, RGB, or either of the previous standards along WITH YPbPr support then please do not comment at all, simple stating it has 'analogue' output is completely insufficient.

I know there are multiple standards of ANALOG output. Any old CRT will work just fine.

I have not seen any documentation for this. However I can confirm that a 14 year old CRT works on my HD7950.

did you emphasis 'ANALOG' due to the spelling? If so it's spelled analogue here in the UK, but it's the same meaning. Thanks for the confirmation of the CRT being functional though, I still haven't got the evidence I'd like but the adapters only 2.99 so I guess it's no big loss if it doesn't work.

LOL no i just have a habit of saying DIGITAL and ANALOG like that.
Apologies for the misunderstanding.

I can confirm that there is NO support for RGB from the DVI-I port from the 7950. It detects a monitor when connected via a DVI-I to RGB cable but there is no display image at the 640x480 native resolution of the television. It was worth a try for a £2 cable but for anyone who might be looking to try this themselves it does NOT work.

No, it's due to RGB for consumer televisions being a different format from the RGB in VGA (as I had originally suspected in OP). There are converter boxes like this http://www.cablewholesale.com/support/technical_articles/pc_to_tv_1.php., but for the price they are not worth it.

It was only a £2 cable I bought so it was worth the experiment, but I'd like to make it clear for anyone who comes across this thread attempting the same thing to not bother with just a cable.
