I've just put this together:
Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H ATX LGA1150 G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866
Seasonic x850
I was running two 8800GTS on a core 2 duo. I thought I had a fried motherboard, but it turns out that it was my GPU. Any suggestions for a decent replacement to go with the above set-up? I'm on a tight budget as I've just moved over to socket 1050, but if there were recommendations for a range of budgets that would help too (perhaps I could get away with the motherboards integrated video for a while).
Also, while on the subject - is it possible for a faulty GPU to damage a motherboard? I ask because when my old 680i board gave-up, I ordered a second hand replacement which I returned as I though it was faulty due to the fact that I couldn't get any video. I'm thinking now that the board probably worked, but my GPU was the problem. I don't quite know how though, as I had two of them, and tried them both independently - is it usual for both to die at the same time?
Lastly, my new motherboard did have a working onboard video output, until I tried using the 8800GTS. Now I get one long and three short beeps, having tried breadboarding using only CPU and RAM (no RAM gives a different sequence of beeps), and no combination of card/slot or even the onboard video gives me any signal. Has the card destroyed the motherboard? If so, anyone feel like donating me a couple hundred quid?
Merry Christmas!
