It is compatible but the card is very powerful and will be bottlenecked by the CPU, basically will not run at its full potential.

-depends on the motherboard but should be compatible.
-careful with the psu power requirements

-the gpu is a bit overpowered compared to the cpu. what do you currently use and what are your expectations?

It says on it that its an Asus P5Q-VM DO. It's kinda old, that's why I am confused if it would even have the right sockets for the GTX 760

It has the slot for the card so no worries there.

it's fine, it has a pci express slot which is backwards compatible.
the big blue slot is the pci express.

you may have issues with the psu though, i assume you are currently using the integrated gpu? the gtx will severely tax your psu and if it can't take it the system will be unstable especially when gaming.

what's your psu model?

Oh good then. Well I don't know. How do you check the model of the PSU? Do you have to open the pc or something?

It is on a sticker on the PSU, usually visible when the side panel is off the computer! What is your current graphics card?

no, the gpu is already bottlenecked but the cpu. and you plan to get an even newer/faster gpu that will still be bottlenecked

to explain, gtx 760 is let's say... about twice/3 times as fast as gtx460 ... but when benchmarked on say a state of the art i7 4770k. on your cpu you can get even a titan and the benchmarks will still reflect the speed of the cpu - e8400. you will notice all or most benchmarks are the same values regardless of the resolution you select indicating that the cpu is what drags the overall speed down.

Why do you want to have a gtx 760 when u have a 460. I mean, what is your purpose? If u want better gaming, then u will have to upgrade your cpu, mobo and card. the psu will work though. If u cannot upgrade the whole thing, then imho, let the 460 be there as of now because your performance will still be downgraded because of your cpu.

GTX 460 + E8400 .. thats kind of a powerful PC rig already .. even powerful if the E8400 is @+4Ghz ..
