New rooter but wifi repeatedly dropping

Suggestions please Inspiron 6400 with Vista. Wifi working this minute but liikely to drop any time. New rooter. Told could be the wifi switch being too sensitive. Wifi ok on other laptops

Did you get the latest driver for the wireless card from Dell? If not, do that, if yes, short of re-installing Windows fully and seeing how things run, I would suggest a simple add-on WiFi card instead of using the built-in one. Frequent dropping of signal can be caused by using a busy wireless channel that's being used by other people in your street.
Go into the router's web-based configuration utility and change the channel. You might have to experiment with different channels to get a reliable connection.
