Very weird and random GPU/Motherboard/HDD issue

Hello, I'd love it if I could receive any sort of advice on this issue I've been having the last year.

Basically, almost a year ago whenever I put my PC under any pressure, copying/un-ziping files or even playing games, sometimes it would freeze and after a while restart itself and then fail to start windows showing that it doesn't see anything that's connected to it through SATA cables.
Neither of my HDD's or my dvd drive, and the only way to get it to start up again is to turn it off and on again.
It would even do this when reinstalling windows, except it wouldn't crash and restart, just say that it couldn't find the DVD drive to install anything.

Usually reinstalling windows fixes it for a while, but these freezes just become more and more frequent over time.

Some other issues starting popping up as well, such as if I let it o into power saving mode, it might not display anything on the monitor, this same thing happened several times when it restarted during windows reinstall and even when just turning on the computer.

Another issue that has only popped up once, was when I turned on the PC, only the fans started up, but nothing else.

At the same time, one of my HDD's has slowed down horribly, it took over 2 hours to install windows on it, it takes it a very long time to start up windows and so on, but funnily enough the whole freezing issue didn't pop up when I installed windows on it.
It only popped up after the install completed and it was worse than ever before, even freezing on windows startup or when downloading files from the net.

I took it to a shop to have it looked at finally because I'm just done, they said the HDD's are dying (which I can believe) and that the video card is dead, they apparently even had to switch it out to get the PC running. Funnily enough, it works fine at home though.. What really concerns me is that they said everything but the GPU and MOBO was working fine.

Anyway, I'm completely lost, I'm gonna take it to some other place to have it looked at again but I'd love some advice. Sorry for the lengthy post.

Hello... what are you downloading after a fresh install of Windows? Free downloads and updates can turn a fresh Windows install into a crawling confused piece of junk... give us your hardware list/specs... Did you get a new hardrive? You should always choose "custom install" when re-loading Windows and delete any previous Partitions before installing, or else you hardrive will keep all the previous installs on it, Windows will not re-write over it self... Go to your local computer Re-cycler and get some new/used Sata cables for your hardrives.

Like I said, the crashes are incredibly random, crashing on the "welcome" message when starting up windows, or crashing when downloading the windows update right after the reinstall.

No, I've had these HDD's for years and haven't had any problems with them until this all started about a year ago. Funnily enough, the HDD that the shop claimed was still working okay was my old IDE one. I had windows installed on that until I switched it over to the SATA one to see if it would make a difference. All it did was make it incredibly slow though and cause more crashes in the end.

I didn't delete the partition the Windows was on when reinstalling, just erased everything off of it instead.

About the cables, the shop said that the SATA cables were fine.

CPU: Intel Core Quad Q8200
Video Card: ASUS Radeon HD 4850
HDD's: 1. Samsung SP2004C (this is the one with windows installed on it currently and is sluggish as hell, the guy in the shop said it's dying)
2. MAXTOR 5A320J0 (the old one that had windows installed on it until recently, the guy in the shop said it's in an okay condition)
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP43-DS3
PSU: Black Diamond BD500W

I know it's old, college student funds and all that.

Hello... hardrives are a mechanical device... and will wareout!!! Before any of your other parts in a computer... replacement cables is a quick cheap easy fix/test... your quad core and MB are still faster than an i3 new CPU... IF it's IDE drive it is really OLD and at near end of lifecycle for every day dependablity... For a fast test to determine if it's SOFTWARE or HARDWARE... Delete Partitions on another Hardrive and re-install a fresh copy of Windows... disconnect all other drives for this TEST.

Yeah, Sentinel put the old Windows HDD at 66% condition and the one that has windows on it currently at 88%, but I'm getting a new one next week to replace them. Erased everything off of the 88% condition HDD and reinstalled Windows on it, hasn't crashed yet + it's not slow either.

The screen hasn't gone black yet like previous and the PC hasn't just refused to start up, but during the windows install, it did get stuck on "Boot from CD/DVD" until I had the reader eject the install disc.

Gonna have to wait and see if the problems still occur with the new HDD I guess.

Welp, replacing the HDD's hasn't fixed anything, besides getting rid of my old run down HDD's.

A WD Green 2 TB HDD. Installed Windows on it, was going fine until the PC restarted to finish up the install, got stuck on "Boot from CD/DVD" while it was spinning up the dvd, stayed like that for 5 minutes until i took out the DVD, it's done this before though.
Then it got stuck on "Finishing installation" for like 30 minutes before I could start typing in what I wanted to name the PC, select a time-zone etc. but then every time I wanted to go on to the next thing that needed to be set, it took it 5 minutes to load in the next page. HDD Sentinel didn't notice anything wrong either.

It's working fine for now, but 30 minutes after I installed the AMD Catalyst, the screen went out, then came back and it looked like someone removed the graphics card drivers, a few seconds later it went out and back again and it looked fine, done this before as well.

Hasn't happened since then though.
