Not receiving full xfinity Blast Speeds wirelessly

Hey guys,
I had comcast come out today and informed me I was using an old router that was limiting my Comcast Blast connection. They told me I should be receiving 50 mbs +. So I went out and bought a 2 in 1 router/modem called Zoom 343 Mbps DOCSIS 3.0 Router and hooked it up.

I ran a test speed hooked up and low and behold I hit 58 mbps. Then I disconnected the cable and ran a wireless speed test and I only hit 23 mbps. Before spending hours on the phone with comcast I was hoping to get an answer here. Why exactly is this happening? Is there something I can change under the advance router settings to reach these speeds.

Do not run it without security. You want to run WPA/WPA2 at the minimum. I would test your computer on another router that is running encryption. It is likely it is the driver for the card in your machine. It is highly unlikely that a newer router can not run encrypted data to a single client machine without slowing down.

It all depends on what wireless standard your router and device are using.

Likely comes down to it being a cheaper router. More expensive routers generally have more wireless hardware, and cheap ones less. Modem/Router combos are rarely all that impressive.. not that they aren't useful.

The router says it combines a 343 MBps cable modem and 300 Mbps wireless-N 4-port Gigabit router. On the bottom in small letters it states "*300 mbps is the maximum 2x2 wireless speed derived from IEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Actual speeds may vary." it seems like they are saying it wont actually reach 300 mbps, but still i should reach 55 mbps should it?

I found out what it was. It was the security setting on the wirless! As soon as I turned that off boom I was hitting optimal speeds! Is there a security setting I can turn on that won't prohibit those speeds?
